Master's Programme in European Studies, 120 hec

The Master´s Programme in European Studies (two years) provides advanced knowledge and analytical skills relevant to different aspects of European development, with a special emphasis on the European Union enlargement and integration processes. The programme is inter- and multidisciplinary and addresses a broad range of topics within the field of European studies including legal, political, economic and social aspects of contemporary European development and integration. One term is dedicated to internship or elective courses. The programme has a history of students pursuing successful internships at major EU-institutions, the United Nations, Foreign ministries and other public or private organisations and companies.The programme equips students with the analytical skills to assess European actors involved in the integration process, implications of EU policy, as well as to formulate strategies to operate effectively in the European arena, i.e. knowledge and skills needed for both professional careers and post-graduate research.

The programme consists of the following courses:

  • European Integration: current research and theory (core course, 15 hec)
  • Integrating European Market (core course, 15 hec)
  • Elective courses or internship (30 hec)
  • Social Europe or European Environment and Energy (semi-elective courses, 15 hec)
  • Research methods (15 hec)
  • Master's thesis (30 hec)

Entrance requirements and application

Entrance Requirements:

A Bachelor´s degree with a minimum of 90 higher education credits (hec) in a social science discipline. Students at the Law programme are also eligible to apply to the Master´s Programme, after three years 180 hec equivalent of a bachelor degree. English B level or English proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.5 no part under 5.5 or TOEFL 575 p, TWE score 4.5 is also required.

Selection:

Selection is based upon the number of credit points from previous university studies, maximum 225 hec. Priority will be given to those with at least 60 hec in the subject European studies.
