Design can reinforce the competitiveness of a company. Would you like to work with others and become better at understanding and using design possibilities? The MA programme with specialization in Business and Design is a 2-year programme, developed in collaboration between School of Design and Crafts (HDK) and School of Business Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg. The programme is for those who are interested in design and the importance of design for the development of companies and organizations. How to increase the ability to coordinate and take advantage of different skills in a design process? How to reinforce the role of design into business? How a design approach can be used as a driver for innovation? The main purpose of the education is to sort out these issues. Students with an undergraduate background in the artistic field as well as business, economics, humanities, technology or social science are welcome to apply. The content of this programme is suitable for many different knowledge fields and depending on your background. Possible professions after graduation could be Designer, Design Buyer, Artistic Director, Project Manager, Design Manager and Product Developer. The education is carried out in close cooperation with companies and organizations in the region. The programme is largely experimental and linked to the implementation of fictitious or real projects. You will also have the opportunity to make international exchange during your studies. The first academic year contains the following courses: -Crash Course in Business Administration (BA) for non BA-students -Crash Course in Design for non-Designers - Knowledge & Practice - Design and Society - Business Analysis with an Emphasize on Contracts and Immaterial rights in Design - Design, Branding and Marketing - Design, Strategy and Innovation - Integrated Projects The second year starts with the Workshop Term where you will work in interdisciplinary teams on projects in collaboration with companies and organizations. You will develop the content and the focus of the projects together with the companies and organizations. The purpose is to get the best insights and practical training in using a design perspective in strategic processes of an organization. What is the link between design, branding, marketing and strategic change? The focus of the projects varies according to different themes and various partners are invited, depending on the current theme. The programme ends with a graduation project during the last semester. The project is conducted in small groups or in pairs, under supervision. The programme will lead to a Master of Science in Business and Design, 2 years or students that have a Bachelor's in Fine Arts can opt for the MFA Master of Fine Arts in Design, 2 years.
Entrance Requirements:
To qualify you will need a Bachelor´s degree of at least 180 higher education credits. Applicants must prove knowledge in English B level or English proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.5 no part under 5.5 or TOEFL Paper-based Score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test, total score of 575 p or Internet-based Score of 20 (scale 0-30) in written test, total score of 90. This requirement does not apply to students with a Bachelor´s degree from an English speaking University, or to students having passed English level B at Swedish/Nordic Upper Secondary School.

Please notice, portfolio only for those with a fine arts degree and CV and letter of intent for everyone. We will only accept digital portfolios. You are supposed to upload your portfolio/CV/letter of intent on HDK s web-platform according to specific instructions for each programme. Interviews are conducted if considered necessary.
